Tropical Storm Isaias latest storm in record fast Atlantic hurricane season

Isaias could threaten Florida coast this weekend.

It figures in the year we call 2020.

Tropical Storm Isaias is the 9th named storms in the Atlantic basin this year. That’s the earliest date to record 9 named Atlantic storms by a long shot.

Isaias is lashing Puerto Rico with wind and rain squalls today.

The storm is large. Isaias is getting better organized as it moves northwest across Puerto Rico toward the Bahamas.

Intensity

Isaias is currently forecast to be a high-end tropical storm with 70 mph sustained winds as it likely strafes the southeast U.S. coast this weekend. But hurricane intensity forecasts are highly variable. And with Isaias over the warm water of the Gulf Stream, greater intensification is a possibility.
