Brisk through this weekend; 70s return next week?

Forecast models suggest highs in the 60s and 70s next week.

We’ve written extensively in Updraft this week about the cold and frost chances this week. Basically, our current cold snap lasts through Saturday. Temperatures begin to moderate by Sunday afternoon.

But forecast models for next week strongly suggest a return to milder air across Minnesota. The jet stream forecast indicates another mild Pacific airflow aloft for most of next week.

By next Tuesday and Wednesday, most of Minnesota will see highs in the 60s again, with 70s knocking at our western door.

NOAA’s 16-day GFS model has been the most aggressive with the warmup around the weekend of October 10-11. This model suggests a string of highs in the 70s for the Twin Cities, with the possibility of more 80-degree days.

Again, I don’t put a lot of stock in day to day numbers on longer-range forecast like this product. But it often grabs onto trends.

We may not be done with 70s, or even 80 degrees just yet.

Stay tuned.
