On the day before the election, two documentaries about the role of citizens in a democracy.

‘The Right to Vote’

Although central to our democracy, the American right to vote has evolved only gradually, as emancipated slaves, women and civil rights activists slowly won the franchise. This documentary explores the long and controversial history of America's decisions about who gets to vote, including the dramatic tale of a 1964 Freedom Summer volunteer.

‘A Union of Citizens’

The documentary examines the role of a citizen in our democracy.  It was a theme that was central to the late Georgia Rep. John Lewis’ mission, and the program features an interview with him.
