We finally ran out of degrees in northern Minnesota.
Temperatures plunged below zero for the first time this season in parts of northern Minnesota. Cass Lake, Minn., dipped to minus 5 Monday morning. Cotton and Kabetogama, Minn., bottomed at minus 2.
Temperatures plunge below zero again up north Tuesday morning. The Twin Cities’ bottom around 10 above in most areas give or take a few degrees.
Our properly Polar air mass is the coldest of the season so far. Monday was the first colder than average day in December in most Minnesota locations.

Warming trend
Milder air gradually returns to Minnesota this week.
Some light snow will fall across northern Minnesota Tuesday. Accumulations will be less than an inch in most areas. The tippy tip of the North Shore may get a couple of inches.
Tuesday brings highs in the 20s. But highs rise through the 30s this week across Minnesota. By Friday, southern Minnesota will reach 40 degrees once again.
After a slightly cooler weekend, Monday looks balmy again as we begin Christmas week. The average high and low for Dec. 21 in the Twin Cities are 25 and 11.
