Get ready for an even colder shot of arctic air by this weekend Minnesota.
We’re coming up for a little air between Arctic surges this week. Temperatures hovered above zero in southern Minnesota Tuesday afternoon.

2nd arctic wave this weekend
The upper air pattern drives another lobe of the polar vortex south into Minnesota this weekend.

This second shot of arctic air looks a few degrees colder than last weekend’s blast. Temperatures will make another run at minus 20 in the Twin Cities by Sunday morning. And minus 40 looks quite possible again in northern Minnesota this weekend.
Again, I think the forecast low-temperature numbers below for Sunday morning may be conservative.

There are signs the worst of the arctic air will retreat next week. Highs in the teens above zero look likely by the middle of next week. Highs in the 20s to around 30 degrees seem quite possible by the weekend of Feb. 20-21.

Hang in there, Minnesota.
