File this one under the “nuisance” snow category. But it’s enough of a nuisance to cause some dicey road conditions across parts of Minnesota.
A weak weather system is producing light snow across much of Minnesota including the Twin Cities. The snow will gradually taper off this evening from west to east. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s GFS model shows the general snow zone between noon and midnight.
Much of Minnesota will pick up an inch of snow, but there could be a few 2-inch totals locally.
The snow is already causing slick roads in much of the area, according to MnDOT and the Twin Cities NWS office.
One reason the roads can get slick with light snowfall is colder temperatures. Road treatments don’t function as well with temperatures at or below 10 degrees.
Take it easy on the roadways through this evening.
