Most of Minnesota is enjoying spectacular weather early this week. Temperatures Monday afternoon have reached the 80s once again across much of Minnesota under bright blue skies and strong late May sunshine.
The exception is along and near Lake Superior where colder temperatures in the 50s linger Monday .
Spotty thundershower chances
The latest short-range forecast model runs suggest a pop-up thundershower is possible through Monday evening, but the highest chance for thundershower favors the hours after midnight around the Twin Cities area.
Here’s the NAM 3 km resolution model forecast between midnight and 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Spectacular Tuesday
I am one of the many people who hasn’t typically worked a Monday-Friday 9-to-5 job.
Over the course of my 35-year weather career, I have worked every shift of every day of the week at one time or another. TV ratings periods in November mean you usually worked Thanksgiving Day. I think at one point I worked 15 Thanksgiving holidays in a row.
So I’m thinking about the people who work weekends and have Monday and Tuesday off this week. You will be happy about our weather this week. Tuesday brings another spectacular day to Minnesota. Highs will reach the 80s across most of the state with cooler 70s pushing in up north.
Dew points crash
A cold front pushes drier and much colder air across Minnesota by Wednesday. Watch the dew points crash Tuesday as drier air sweeps in from the northwest.
Temperatures also plunge Wednesday through Friday of this week. Highs hover in the 50s by Thursday and Friday.
Thursday also brings rain to most of Minnesota.
