Beautiful summer weather now; Watching for much-needed rain chances Thursday and next week

We’re scanning the weather maps for rain across Minnesota.

Our early week weather pattern is among some of the most beautiful weather of the year in Minnesota. Highs in the 80s and low humidity are coveted by many of us. But the nagging dryness and deepening drought can taper the enthusiasm for our lovely weather pattern.

Good sleeping weather overnight

Yep, our dads used the phrase a lot during the summer back in the day before many of us had air conditioning. Tonight brings some “good sleeping weather” across Minnesota.

Low humidity and lows in the 50s mean many of us can give the AC a well-deserved rest.

Rain chance Wednesday night and Thursday?

Our next chance for a decent (localized) soaking arrives Wednesday night and Thursday. A weak low-pressure system should spawn a few scattered thunderstorms. NOAA’s NAM 3 km resolution model paints a few strong cells drifting southeast Wednesday night. The loop below runs from 7 p.m. Wednesday to 1 a.m. Thursday.

NOAA’s GFS model sparks a few more thunderstorm zones Thursday. Most of these favor southern Minnesota and could include the Twin Cities.

Overall rainfall totals still look spotty this week. Here’s NOAA’s GFS precipitation output.

A few lucky spots could pick up an inch of rain or more, but coverage still looks spotty.

I’ll enjoy the glorious weather and hope we get some meaningful rain this week.
