The calendar says mid-September is near. But the weather maps say we’re not done with summerlike highs in the 80s just yet. At least for southern and western Minnesota.
Southerly breezes return Friday and that will produce highs in the 80s across southern Minnesota Friday and Saturday. Even northern Minnesota will enjoy the upper 70s to near 80 degrees.
Temperatures will get close to 90 degrees in southwest Minnesota Friday afternoon. Here’s a look at the high-temperature forecast for Friday afternoon.

Saturday brings more 80s to southern Minnesota, but a cool front pushing into northern Minnesota will drop temperatures into the 60s. Sunday brings cooler but still pleasant temperatures to Minnesota.

Little or no rain is likely across Minnesota through Monday.
More 80s ahead this month?
The overall weather pattern is trending milder than average as we peer around the corner into late September. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s medium-range temperature outlooks favor warmer than average temperatures overall into late September.

Precipitation outlooks favor average to drier than average weather for Minnesota this month.
For the past several runs, NOAA’s 16-day Global Forecast System model temperature output has consistently cranked out several more 80-degree days later this month. The latest version suggests a string of possible 80s around Sept. 22-24.
This chart is a little wonky, but the yellow shading shows forecast temperatures above 80 degrees for the Twin Cities.

Enjoy this beautiful month known as September in Minnesota. Minnesota’s colder autumn weather shoe lurks out there somewhere, but so far I don’t see it sailing this way.
