Most Minnesotans I’m hearing from are pretty much done with wintry weather. The weird part is this March has been close to the average for temperatures, and actually below average for snowfall in the Twin Cities.
The average temperature for March is running just 1 degree below average this month at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. And we’ve recorded 4.6 inches of snow so far. That’s 2.2 inches below the average of 7.8 inches. So this March isn’t even unusually cold or snowy. That’s sobering for those of us who want instant spring.

Thursday brings one last gray, windy day with a chill in the air. Highs will be in the 30s across most of Minnesota Thursday.
NOAA’s NAM 3 km resolution model shows a blustery northwest wind flow across Minnesota that gradually eases Thursday night. The loop below runs between 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. Thursday.
But high-pressure wedges in just enough to give us more abundant (if not total) sunshine Friday through Sunday. And highs temperatures will respond into the 50s this weekend. Honestly other than a chance for a few spotty passing rain or snow showers our weather looks boring, but nicer as we move through the weekend. The truth is, boring weather works just fine for most people.

Saturday and Sunday bring 50s back to southern Minnesota. Highs will run in the 49s up north, so at least we’ll be melting a little snow.
Monday looks like the warmest day of the next several. Most forecast models crank out the mid-50s for the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota.
It’s baby steps into spring this year.
