It seemed like winter lingered well into April this year. April temperatures ran six degrees colder than average in the Twin Cities. We basically had back-to-back months of March when it comes to temperatures.
But the frigid temperature pattern eased across Minnesota in May. May featured 19 days at or above 70 degrees in the Twin Cities. And we basked in 6 days with temperatures in the 80s and two days in the 90s.
Overall the month of May finished 1.5 degrees warmer than average in the Twin Cities.
It was also wetter than average across much of Minnesota. A swath of central to northeastern Minnesota picked up four to seven inches of rainfall in May.

Pleasantly cool start to June
The weather maps for the first two weeks of June look pleasantly cool. Highs should reach the lower 70s most days through next week in southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities. Highs will generally be in the 60s across the northern half of Minnesota.
We’ll see a lot of high temperatures posted on maps like this one through next week, give or take a few degrees.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s eight to 14-day temperature outlook still paints a cooler-than-average bull’s-eye across the Upper Midwest.
Looking for some summer heat? The medium-range forecast models suggest more 80s and another shot at 90 degrees in about two weeks.
