Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Comfortable temps and dew points were enjoyed across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Sunday.

The Sunday high temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 82 degrees. That’s just one degree shy of our average July 24 high in the Twin Cities.

Monday highs will be mainly in the 70s in the northern third of Minnesota and much of western Wisconsin. Many spots in central and southern Minnesota will reach 80 or the lower 80s Monday afternoon:

Monday afternoon dew points will be in the comfortable upper 40s to lower 50s in most areas:

With a high pressure system settling in over Minnesota on Monday, you can expect fairly light winds.

Back to forecast highs, Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be in the lower 80s Tuesday and  Wednesday, followed by upper 70s Thursday and around 80 on Friday. We could see metro area highs in the upper 80s to around 90 next weekend.

August will probably start out warmer than normal. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a strong tendency for above-normal temps in the upper Midwest from August 1 through August 7:

could see a few scattered showers Monday afternoon and evening, with that rain chance spreading eastward Monday night.

Many areas could see at least some rain on Tuesday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 5 a.m. Tuesday to 10 p.m. Tuesday:

The northern half of Minnesota appears to have the best chance of showers and a few thunderstorms on Tuesday, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will also be possible elsewhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

Our Tuesday shower/t-storm chance in the Twin Cities metro area looks to be mainly in the afternoon, but check forecast updates.
