Highways remain closed in southern Minnesota after a strong system delivered heavy snowfall and blizzard conditions. MPR News meteorologists are tracking the system to bring you the latest forecast.

Most highways in southern Minnesota that were closed due to blizzard conditions on Sunday night have now reopened.


Highways remained closed Monday morning across much of southwest and south-central Minnesota, in the wake of blizzard conditions overnight.

After days of 50-degree weather the past few weeks, deep down, some Minnesotans knew the state was in for another blast which came over the weekend. Rochester was in the region hit hardest by a late-winter snowstorm.


After days of 50-degree weather the past few weeks, deep down, some Minnesotans knew the state was in for another blast which came over the weekend. Rochester was in the region hit hardest by a late-winter snowstorm. It received more than a foot. The Twin Cities got a much milder amount than the 18 to 24 inches of snow originally predicted, though it was still enough to prompt schools cancellation across the state Monday.

While the heaviest snow has already fallen, blizzard conditions will continue into Sunday night as powerful winds blow around the fresh snowpack. Snowfall is expected to finally wrap up late tonight.
