Minnesota transportation officials closed highways in south-central Minnesota on Sunday evening — including a long stretch of Interstate 90 — with blizzard conditions expected to continue into early Monday.
“Snow and strong winds are creating blowing and drifting snow, significantly reducing visibility and creating hazardous travel conditions,” the Minnesota Department of Transportation reported. Those conditions could become even more hazardous after nightfall.
MnDOT said the closures include:
I-90 between Worthington and Albert Lea
State Highway 60 between Mankato and the Iowa border
State Highway 19 between Winthrop and the Iowa border
U.S. Highway 169 between Vernon Center and the Iowa border
All other state and federal highways in Nobles, Jackson, Cottonwood, Watonwan, Martin and Faribault counties
Those closures are expected to remain in place overnight, and until conditions improve on Monday. Find updated information on MnDOT’s 511 website.
To the east, Interstate 35 remained closed from Albert Lea south into Iowa.
MnDOT continued to advise no travel across the rest of southern Minnesota as of Sunday evening.
