Brighter but cool Sunday: next batch of snow moves in on Monday

Early Sunday morning temps are in the teens below zero in parts of far northwestern Minnesota, and there is enough wind to drop wind chill temps into the -25 to -35 range in some spots.

A wind chill advisory runs until noon today in eastern North Dakota and in several northwestern Minnesota counties:

Highs and afternoon wind chill temps

Our average Twin Cities high temp is 28 degrees this time of year. Metro area highs are expected to be in the teens today. Much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have Sunday highs in the teens, with single-digit highs in western Minnesota.

Sunday afternoon wind chills will be in the single-digits below zero in many areas, with teens below zero to the west.

Next batch of snow arrives Monday and lingers into Monday night

Northwestern and north-central Minnesota could see a few scattered Sunday flurries, but most of us won’t see our next batch of flakes until Monday.

Patches of light snow showers could move into western Minnesota Monday morning, then periods of snow are likely to spread over much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin Monday afternoon and evening and linger into the overnight hours.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential snow pattern from 6 a.m. Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday:

Much of central and southern Minnesota could see around one inch of snow, with between two and three inches in parts of the north.

Areas near Lake Superior could see three to six inches of snow by late Monday night.
