Areas of fog/freezing fog Saturday night/early Sunday; Warmest temps on Monday

Cooler temps by the end of next week

Much of western Minnesota had some sunshine Saturday afternoon, but a shroud of clouds remained parked over eastern Minnesota and on into Wisconsin.

Light winds will allow areas of fog and freezing fog to develop Saturday night and linger into Sunday morning. A dense fog advisory continues until 9 a.m. Sunday for several counties in southwestern Minnesota:

Additional counties may be added to the dense fog advisory Saturday night.

By Sunday afternoon, some breaks in the cloud cover will develop in western and northern Minnesota. There could also be some thinning of the cloud cover elsewhere Sunday afternoon, with some glimpses of sun at times.

Snow stays south

A low pressure system will spread snow across southern and eastern Iowa and into Illinois and far southern Wisconsin from Saturday evening into Sunday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 p.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Sunday:

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 23 degrees this time of year. Metro area highs will be close to that mark on Sunday, and highs in the 20s are expected across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin:

Parts of west-central and northwestern Minnesota will have Sunday highs in the teens.

Monday highs reach the lower 30s in the metro area and most of central and southern Minnesota:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the the upper 20s Tuesday and Wednesday, followed by lower 20s Thursday and Friday. Metro area highs may be in the upper teens next Saturday.

We could see below-normal temps next Sunday and into the following week, according to the latest temperature outlook from the NWS Climate Prediction Center:

Weather nugget

The official Twin Cities snowfall total (at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport) was 50.2 inches during the entire 2021-2022 snow season. We’ve already seen 52.5 inches of snow in the Twin Cities this snow season.
