Our January has been much warmer than normal so far.
At Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, the average temp is running 7.5 degrees warmer than normal this January. Twenty-two out of 25 days have been warmer than normal in the Twin Cities this January.
Our temps are chilly Thursday, but they will rebound briefly on Friday before turning sharply colder this weekend. Next week looks chilly as well.
Weekend temps and wind chills
Saturday morning low temps will range from teens below zero in northwestern Minnesota to single digits above zero in the Twin Cities and southern Minnesota:

Saturday will be breezy, with afternoon wind chills ranging from 20s below zero in northwestern Minnesota to single digits below zero southeast:
Saturday highs will be below zero to the northwest and in the single digits and lower teens above zero to the southeast:
Twin Cities Saturday highs, around 10 degrees, will be 14 degrees below our average Jan. 28 high temperature.
Low temps Sunday morning will range from 20s below zero in the far north to single digits below zero in the metro area and southeastern Minnesota:
Sunday afternoon wind chill temps will be in the teens and 20s below zero:
Sunday high temps will be in the single digits below zero in northern and western Minnesota, with single digits above zero elsewhere:
Snow chances south on Saturday
A low-pressure system will bring snow to Iowa, far southern Minnesota and the southern half of Wisconsin on Saturday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential snow pattern from 3 a.m. Saturday to 5 p.m. Saturday:
Some forecast models keep the Saturday snow just south of the Twin Cities metro area. Sunday looks dry in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.
Friday morning commute may be slow
A low-pressure system is expected to spread snow into eastern North Dakota Thursday afternoon and into northwestern Minnesota early Thursday evening.
The snow may arrive in the Twin Cities metro area late this evening, with periods of snow overnight, ending early Friday. NOAA’s NAM forecast model shows the potential snow pattern from 5 p.m. this Thursday to noon on Friday:
Many areas are expected to see around 1 inch of snow from Thursday evening into Friday morning:
