Frigid Saturday: Arctic air, wind chills set in across Minnesota

It’s a cold start to our weekend!

Early Saturday morning temps range from 20s below zero in far northern Minnesota to single digits above zero in the southern third of Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.

Wind chills are in the 20s and 30s below zero across much of northern Minnesota Saturday morning. A wind chill advisory continues until 3 p.m. in northwestern Minnesota and eastern North Dakota:

Saturday high temps will be below zero in northwestern, north-central and west-central Minnesota:

The metro area, southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin will creep into the double-digits above zero for afternoon highs.

For perspective, our average Twin Cities high temp is 24 degrees this time of year.

Snow stays south

Periods of snow are expected in far southern Minnesota on Saturday, with heavier snow in much of Iowa and far southern Wisconsin.

The advisory continues until 6 p.m. in Rock, Nobles and Jackson County, and until 10 p.m. from Martin County eastward to Fillmore County. The winter weather advisory continues until 3 a.m. Sunday in Houston County of far southeastern Minnesota.
