Mild temps next weekend

The Sunday high temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 6 degrees above zero. That’s much colder than our average Jan. 29 Twin Cities high of 24 degrees.

Most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin had Sunday highs in the single digits above zero, but northwestern Minnesota and parts of north-central Minnesota had below-zero highs.

No big changes Sunday night and Monday

The arctic high pressure system will remain nearby through Monday. Most areas won’t see any flakes, but very cold air will stay over us.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential pressure pattern and precipitation pattern for Monday:

Tuesday will be another very cold day, then temperatures will rebound by Wednesday afternoon. Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be around 11 degrees above zero on Tuesday, followed by upper teens Wednesday then mid teens Thursday. Twin Cities highs retreat to about 10 degrees on Friday, then they’ll rebound nicely to the 20s next weekend.

Temperatures may be near normal or a bit above normal in much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin next weekend and into the beginning of the following week, according to the NWS Climate Prediction Center:
