Despite cold snap, Minnesota's short on subzero temps this winter

Saturday brings milder temps, mini-thaw

Monday marked the eighth day of subzero temperatures in the Twin Cities this winter. Minnesota’s winter average is 23 days, however, so we’re well behind pace more than halfway through the season.

Temperatures bottomed out at a respectable minus 8 degree in the Twin Cities Monday morning. Here are some select low-temperatures from around Minnesota for the past two days:

  • Twin Cities, minus 8 degrees

  • Rochester, minus 9

  • St. Cloud, minus 16

  • Brainerd, minus 21

  • Thief River Falls, minus 24

  • Park Rapids, minus 27

  • International Falls, minus 30

  • Ely, minus 33

  • Embarrass, minus 36

  • Lake Kabetogema, minus 38

Tuesday brings another subzero morning to Minnesota. The core of the coldest air with our current air mass will slide south into the Twin Cities Tuesday morning. We should dip to minus 10 to minus 12 around the greater Twin Cities area.

If we reach minus 12 degrees it will tie the coldest morning of winter so far in the Twin Cities.
