Mild temperatures continue

This is a nice way to complete a winter weekend.

Sunday highs will be a few degrees above average and winds aren’t very gusty today. A few spots could see a passing flurry, especially in northern Minnesota.

Sunday afternoon highs will be in the 20s across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Some spots in the Twin Cities metro area and southern Minnesota could touch 30 degrees. Our average Twin Cities high temp is 26 degrees this time of year.

Monday highs will be in the 30s in most areas, with 20s in parts of northeastern Minnesota:

Monday forecast highs

Gusty winds are expected on Monday, so it’ll feel cooler than the actual temps.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid-30s on Tuesday, followed by upper 30s Wednesday and Thursday then around 30 on Friday.

Precipitation chances Monday afternoon/evening

A low pressure system is expected to spread a mix of rain and snow across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin Monday afternoon. The mix could arrive in the Twin Cities metro area around mid-afternoon on Monday. Periods of rain, snow or a rain/snow mix will continue Monday evening in many locations.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon Monday to 6 a.m. Tuesday:

By Monday evening it’s expected to be mainly snow in northern and central Minnesota plus northwestern Wisconsin, with a mix of rain and snow in the Twin Cities metro area and southern Minnesota into west-central Wisconsin.

Weather nugget

On this date in 2019, 4.1 inches of snow fell at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. It was the first measurable snow of February 2019 at MSP airport, but there were several big snowfalls over the remainder of February. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport tallied 39 inches of snow in February 2019, making it the snowiest February in Twin Cities weather records.
