Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

This as a reminder that winter isn’t over.

A low pressure system will drop several inches of snow on much of northern Minnesota and parts of northern Wisconsin Sunday night through Monday. Central Minnesota will have lighter snow amounts.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 9 p.m. Sunday to 11 p.m. Monday:

Parts of northwestern Minnesota could tally 3 to 5 inches of snow Sunday night through Monday evening:

Portions of northeastern Minnesota will see 4 to 6 inches of new snow Monday through Monday evening:

There may be some amounts of 7 inches or more.

Lighter snow amounts are expected in central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin on Monday. The Twin Cities metro area could see periods of light snow and a rain/snow mix on Monday, with a half-inch or less of accumulation.

Sunday highs range from teens in far northwestern Minnesota to 30s from the North Shore through the metro area and southeastern Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:

Monday highs will be in the 30s in southern and central Minnesota, with mainly 20s to the north:

A new Updraft will be posted around 10:40 a.m. today. It will include an update on the Monday snow potential up north plus some info on the heavier snow that will hit portions of Minnesota and Wisconsin Tuesday evening into Wednesday and Thursday.
