The Friday afternoon high temp at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was just 11 degrees. That’s way below the average Twin Cities high for this date of 32 degrees.
Temps recover a bit Saturday afternoon, but we won’t see 30s until Sunday afternoon.

Periods of light snow are expected Friday evening across much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Accumulations are expected to be 1 inch or less in most locations.

Temperature trends
Low temps Friday night and early Saturday are expected to be below zero across much of Minnesota. Parts of the Twin Cities metro area, southeastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could stay slightly above zero.
A wind chill advisory covers much of northwestern Minnesota plus North Dakota from 6 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Saturday:
Wind chills as low as 35 below zero are possible.
Saturday highs will be mainly in the 20s, with teens in northwestern Minnesota:
Low temps late Saturday night and early Sunday will be below zero in most of northern Minnesota and slightly above zero in the south:
Sunday highs will reach the 30s in most areas, but northern Minnesota will have some 20s:
Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid-30s on Monday and Tuesday, followed by lower 30s Wednesday then upper 20s Thursday and lower 30s on Friday.
Monday mess?
Rain and freezing rain plus snow are all possible Sunday night and Monday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System (GFS) model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 p.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday:
Parts of Wisconsin and southeastern Minnesota could see some periods of heavy rain Sunday night and Monday.

Spring flooding outlook
Many of us saw substantial rain on Valentine’s Day, and we also had impressive snow totals this week.
There’s now 2 to 4 inches of water in our snowpack across most of Minnesota plus portions of western Wisconsin:
The National Weather Service has upgraded the outlook for spring flooding to above-normal in the upper Mississippi River basin and in the Minnesota River and Chippewa River basins:
