Weekend weather: Quiet Saturday; rain-snow chances Sunday

We’ll have fairly typical early-March temperatures this weekend.

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 36 degrees on March 4. Metro area highs are forecast to reach the upper 30s this Saturday.

Saturday highs will be in the 30s across most of Minnesota plus western Wisconsin:

Parts of northwestern and west-central Minnesota could top out in the upper 20s. Winds will be light on Saturday.

Winds will pick up a bit Sunday afternoon as a low pressure system approaches.

Rain-snow possible Sunday afternoon, evening

A low-pressure system is expected to spread some rain and snow into Minnesota and western Wisconsin Sunday afternoon and evening.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 9 a.m. Sunday to 6 p.m. Sunday:

The temperatures aloft vary from model to model. Some forecast models show mainly rain Sunday afternoon and evening in southern Minnesota, with snow chances higher to the north. We’ll have more details as we get closer to Sunday.

Weather nugget

The amount of daylight (the time between sunrise and sunset) shows a nice increase over the next month.

The Twin Cities metro area has 11 hours and 12 minutes of daylight today, but that increases to 12 hours and 50 minutes of daylight on April 2.
