Sloppy snow or rain/snow mix late Sun. afternoon into Sunday night; Slow Monday commute

Eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have pleasant weather into the first half of the afternoon, but some wet snow or a rain/snow mix is headed our way for late afternoon and this evening.

The wet snow or rain/snow mix spreads into southwestern Minnesota and parts of west-central Minnesota during the early afternoon hours, then coverage expands to the north and east during the late afternoon and evening hours of Sunday. The wet snow or rain/snow mix could arrive in the Twin Cities metro area around 5 p.m. or so. Periods of wet snow or a rain/snow mix continue in many areas overnight, then the steadiest snow Monday morning is expected to be in parts of northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from noon Sunday to noon on Monday:

The Twin Cities metro area and parts of southern Minnesota could also have a bit of thunder and lightning this evening.

Temperature trends

Sunday highs will be in the 30s across most of Minnesota plus western Wisconsin. A few spots could touch 40.

Monday highs will be mainly in the 30s, but northwestern Minnesota will see some 20s:

There could even be some teens in far northwestern Minnesota.

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the upper 30s on Tuesday, followed by mid 30s Wednesday and Thursday then lower 30s on Friday.
