Frigid temperatures this weekend prompt cold weather advisories

Many of us were busy Saturday shoveling or plowing the heavy, wet snow that fell Friday night. At least we had plenty of sunshine while we cleared those sidewalks, driveways and roads.

The official snow total from this storm at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 8.5 inches:

This now ranks as the third snowiest snow season in Twin Cities weather records:

I measured 8.8 inches of new snow in St. Paul.

Southern and central Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin could see spotty light rain/light freezing rain or a wintry mix Sunday morning.

Northern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin have a good chance of seeing a wintry mix at times on Sunday, with accumulating snow in parts of the far north:

Some computer models show a strong low pressure system bringing precipitation to the upper Midwest Tuesday into Wednesday.

The Twin Cities metro area, southeastern Minnesota and much of western Wisconsin would see mainly rain and embedded thunderstorms Tuesday and Tuesday evening, then a changeover to a wintry mix late Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Our average Twin Cities high temperature is 50 degrees on April 2.  Metro area highs will probably reach the upper 40s this Sunday.

Sunday highs will range from 30s in northwestern Minnesota to 50s in far southeastern Minnesota:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the mid 40s on Monday and Tuesday. Metro area temps may be around 40 degrees early Wednesday morning, with falling temps by afternoon. Highs in the upper 30s are expected on Thursday, followed by upper 40s on Friday.
