One down, more to come.
The Twin Cities smashed the long-standing record high temperature of 83 degrees Wednesday set way back in 1931. As of this post late Wednesday afternoon, we topped out at 88 degrees at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

That’s more than 30 degrees warmer than the Twin Cities average high of 55 degrees for April 12.
We also saw the first 90-degree temperatures of 2023 in Minnesota, with 90 degrees recorded at Owatonna and Winona.

Here is a list of likely temperature records to fall in the coming days in the Twin Cities.
April 12
Record high: 83 degrees, set in 1931. We broke that Wednesday with 88 degrees.
Record high minimum: 60 degrees, set in 1941. We dropped to 63 degrees overnight.
April 13
Record high: 84 degrees. I’m forecasting at least 85 degrees Thursday.
Record high minimum: 59 degrees, set in 1941. We’ll likely stay above that overnight.
Highs Thursday will return to July territory once again with 80s across most of central and southern Minnesota. Friday will still be balmy but a few degrees cooler, as a cold front edges into western Minnesota.

Rain, snow chances this weekend
Our summer weather fling comes to an abrupt breakup this weekend. Saturday brings rain and colder temperatures.
Two of the forecast models we watch are now suggesting we could see at least a chance of snow Sunday.
The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model on Wednesday came more in line with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System, expecting snow Sunday in eastern Minnesota and Wisconsin.

It’s still too early to have high confidence or talk about possible snowfall totals, but since we’re now just four days out it’s worth a mention.
Stay tuned.
