Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

It’ll be a dry Sunday in most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but some spots could see a few minutes of rain. 

At 10:30 a.m., there was a band of showers in parts of central Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin, tracking slowly southeastward. 

Computer models show the rain coverage becoming more scattered before it reaches the Twin Cities metro area, but I wouldn’t be surprised if some spot in the metro area sees a passing shower late Sunday morning or very early in the afternoon. 

Parts of far northeastern Minnesota could see scattered afternoon showers. One forecast model shows a shower/isolated thunderstorm chance in southwestern Minnesota into Sunday afternoon.

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 83 degrees this time of year. Metro area highs are expected to be around 80 degrees Sunday afternoon. 

Parts of southern Minnesota will see Sunday highs in the lower 80s, with mainly 70s elsewhere in Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Dew points will be mainly in the comfortable 50s. 

Monday highs will reach the 80s in most locations:

There will be a few 70s in northeastern Minnesota. 

Tuesday highs will be in the 80s in most areas, with some 70s in far northeastern Minnesota:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to be in the upper 80s to around 90 on Wednesday and Thursday, then in the mid-80s on Friday. 

Much of Minnesota and western Wisconsin will have a dry Monday. Parts of southwestern Minnesota could see scattered showers and an isolated thunderstorm Monday morning/early afternoon. 

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 5 a.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Monday:

Twin Cities metro area rain chances will start to increase Tuesday night into Wednesday and Thursday. 

We’ve had something for everyone when it comes to July temperatures. Twin Cities metro area highs have been warmer than normal on 16 days this July and cooler than normal on 12 days. The high temperature was right at normal on 1 day.
