The U.S. Drought Monitor showed 80 percent of Minnesota in drought in the most recent drought report, which was issued on Thursday.
Parts of Minnesota saw meaningful rain on Friday, but most of us could use some rain. We do have rain in the forecast.
Sunday rain chances
The steadiest rains at mid-morning are in far southern Minnesota and in parts of west-central Minnesota. The rain is tracking eastward and a second wave of rain is expected to affect more of Minnesota and parts of Wisconsin later this afternoon into tonight.
Parts of the Twin Cities metro area have seen spotty light rain showers this morning, and that spotty shower chance lingers into early afternoon. Better rain chances arrive in the metro area later this afternoon.

Periods of rain are likely Sunday evening and overnight Sunday night into Monday morning in southern and central Minnesota and portions of Wisconsin. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 6 p.m. Sunday to noon on Monday:

Severe weather outlook
The NWS Storm Prediction Center shows a marginal risk (darker green) of severe weather Sunday afternoon through Sunday night in southwestern and south-central Minnesota:
Marginal risk means that an isolated severe thunderstorm is possible.
Cooler temps
Sunday high temperatures will be in the lower 70s across most of Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but there will be some 60s in parts of southwestern and south-central Minnesota:
Parts of the metro area will reach the lower 70s. The average Twin Cities high temp is 81 degrees this time of year.
