The Twin Cities set another record high Wednesday. The temperature hit 98 degrees in the 3 p.m. hour at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (see the image above).
That’s the second straight day with a record-breaking heat with a high of 98 degrees. Both days also broke a previous record high of 97 degrees.
Tuesday and Wednesday are the hottest two days of the year in the Twin Cities and most of southern Minnesota. The previous hottest day in 2023 was July 27 at 96 degrees.
Here are a few more select heat items.
26th day at or above 90 degrees in the Twin Cities this year on Wednesday.
30 days ties for the 10th highest number of 90-degree days at MSP (1894, 1931).
102 degrees Wednesday at Winona and Austin in southern Minnesota.
Summer 2023 appears to be on track for a possible top 10 warmest summer on record.
Heat eases
You’ll notice the heat backing off gradually Thursday and Friday, and big changes are on the way by this weekend. This looks like an ideal weather weekend at the Minnesota State Fair.
Highs on Thursday will ease back to around 90 degrees in the Twin Cities. Note the more comfortable 70s and 80s to the north. See how the intense heat dome is getting pushed south of Minnesota?
By the weekend highs in the 70s will cover most of Minnesota.
