We’re in a drought, so it was nice to see some rain overnight into Friday morning. The steadiest rains moved out of much of the Twin Cities metro area by midday Friday, but rain will continue in portions of the southeast Twin Cities region into early afternoon.
Periods of rain will also continue into Friday afternoon in south-central and southeastern Minnesota and in western Wisconsin. An isolated thunderstorm is possible.
Additional patchy showers and thunderstorms could develop anywhere in eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin later Friday afternoon into Friday evening.
The Storm Prediction Center of the National Weather Service shows a marginal risk (darker green) of severe weather in parts of eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin Friday afternoon and evening:

Mainly dry this weekend
Most of Minnesota will have rain-free weather Saturday and Sunday. North-central and northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin could see a few scattered showers at times on Saturday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale (NAM) forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 5 a.m. Saturday to 11 p.m. Saturday:
Weekend temps
The average Twin Cities high temperature is 73 degrees on Sept. 16. Metro area highs are forecast to reach the lower 70s on Saturday.
Saturday afternoon highs will also be in the lower 70s across southern Minnesota and west-central Wisconsin:
Northern Minnesota have mainly 60s.
Sunday high temps reach the lower 70s in the Red River Valley and in much of central and southern Minnesota:
60s are expected elsewhere in Minnesota and in northwestern Wisconsin.
Fall color report
Fall colors are emerging in portions of northern Minnesota.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources fall color report for Minnesota State Parks and Trails looks like this:
When you look at fall color maps, keep in mind that all deciduous trees are included. The maples can sometimes be peaking in an area when the overall changeover to fall color is 50 percent or less.
