It’s Sept. 19 as I write this. I had to do a double-take on the calendar.
It seems our supersized summer of 2023 is in no hurry to leave this year. Tuesday delivered near-record warmth to western Minnesota as the mercury pushed to 93 degrees in Madison, Minn. That’s just 4 degrees shy of the record.
Highs also hit 90 in several locations in southwestern Minnesota including Canby, Granite Falls, Appleton, and Montevideo.
The pool of summerlike warmth will linger over the Upper Midwest through at least Thursday. Highs Wednesday will soar well into the 80s once again across much of Minnesota. We could see more towns touch 90 degrees again Wednesday afternoon.
Thursday brings another day of summerlike warmth with highs from the upper 70s into the lower 80s.
So far, September is running about 3 degrees warmer than average in the Twin Cities and most of Minnesota.
