Here it comes, Minnesota. You knew our unprecedented record warmth wouldn’t last as we move into October.
A family of cold fronts will sweep through Minnesota later this week. By Saturday morning, temperatures will be more than 50 degrees colder in some areas compared to Sunday afternoon. This cold snap will get your attention.
One more hot day
Tuesday brings what will likely be the hottest day for the rest of the year across most of Minnesota. Highs will soar well into the 80s again across much of our state.
The record high for the Twin Cities is 90 degrees on Tuesday. I don’t think we’ll quite get there but it will feel way more July than October.

Tuesday rain chances
The first approaching cold front will spark scattered showers and a few thunderstorms Tuesday through Tuesday night.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NAM 3 km resolution model suggests scattered cells in southwestern Minnesota moving into eastern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities area, by later Tuesday evening.
The forecast model loop below runs between 7 p.m. Tuesday and 1 a.m. Wednesday.
There is a marginal (low) risk for a couple of severe cells in southwestern Minnesota on Tuesday.
Temps crash later this week
By Wednesday, Minnesota will begin to tap Canadian air. Highs in the 60s south and 50s north will feel much different than last weekend.
By Friday, most of northern Minnesota will hover in the 40s, with 50s in the south.
Throw in a brisk northwest wind gusting to over 30 mph and you’ll be reaching for clothing you haven’t seen for about six months.
By Saturday morning, lows in the 30s will cover most of Minnesota. So expect widespread frost and freeze warnings this weekend.
