“It was a great summer.” - Minnesotan
I hear that line a lot this time of year. It’s usually said with appreciation for the season that just was. And resignation for the season ahead.

Our extended summer of 2023 delivered a record 101 days at or above 80 degrees in the Twin Cities. That’s about a full month more than the usual number of highs in the 80s.
Now we watch the weather maps deliver a steady diet of cold fronts in a persistent October northwest flow pattern.

Frost advisories and freeze warnings cover about the western half of Minnesota Saturday morning.

Frosty temperatures will cover much of the central Plains Saturday morning from the Dakotas southward into northern Oklahoma!

The eastern edge of the freeze zone includes southwestern Minnesota, where temperatures will dip into the upper 20s and lower 30s.

The inner core of the Twin Cities will likely escape frost this weekend with lows around 40 degrees inside the Interstate 494 / Interstate 694 freeway loop. But lows in the upper 30s will be common in the suburbs.

Cooler than average weather is likely to persist into next week with similar temperatures.
Fall has arrived on the weather maps.
