You may need to use the windshield wipers Wednesday. The best wiper setting will likely be intermittent, but a couple of stray downpours could have you reaching for the medium or high setting.

A weak low-pressure system will bring occasional scattered rain showers to Minnesota Wednesday.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s NAM 3 km model (see the map above) gives you the idea of scattered rain rotating around the low as it slides southeast on Wednesday. The forecast model loop above runs between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Generally light rain

Our inbound system is akin to an Alberta clipper in winter. It will race southeast across Minnesota from Canada. These systems don’t carry as much moisture as storms that approach Minnesota from the south. So expect rainfall amounts to be generally light.

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model suggests most of Minnesota will see less than one-quarter (0.25) inch of rainfall. A few pockets could pick up more than one-half (0.5) inch under heavier more persistent cells.
