“I'm so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.” ― L. M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables

October can be one of the finest weather months in Minnesota. So far we’re running about 3 degrees warmer than average this month in the Twin Cities and much of Minnesota. Our record-setting 92-degree heat on Oct. 1 has mellowed into a mild colorful autumn palette.

We’re getting some sunny peeks here at the Weather Lab and around the greater Twin Cities as I write this post late Wednesday afternoon, but occasional showers will linger across parts of Minnesota into early Thursday.

Bright blue fall skies return on Friday — and Friday could be the best day of the fall for leaf-peeping around the Twin Cities.

Clouds linger first

Clouds will linger in the Twin Cities and eastern Minnesota on Thursday, but the sun will emerge in western Minnesota.

That means high temperatures will climb into the 60s once again west of the Twin Cities.

Friday brings mostly sunny skies to Minnesota. Our waning October sun intensity is still powerful enough to boost temperatures well into the 60s, with some 70s in western Minnesota.

The weekend will be pretty decent. A mix of sun and clouds south, with some lighter rain showers in the north and east.

Highs will mainly be in the 50s to low 60s south with some 40s and 50s north this weekend.
