Weekend weather: Gusty winds Saturday; highs mainly in the 50s

Our pleasant Friday weather will be followed by gusty winds on Saturday, as a low-pressure system tracks nearby.

Far northern Minnesota could see patchy showers late Friday afternoon and Friday evening. Shower chances overnight Friday night and into Saturday will be highest in northeastern Minnesota and in portions of Wisconsin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential rain pattern from 6 p.m. Friday to 9 p.m. Saturday:

Gusty winds Saturday

Gusty winds will develop across Minnesota and western Wisconsin on Saturday as a low-pressure system tracks to our northeast.

Here are forecast wind gusts for 1 p.m. Saturday:

Forecast wind gusts are in knots, with 24 knots equal to 27.6 mph. Some spots will see wind gusts over 30 mph at times Saturday afternoon.

Weekend temps

The average Twin Cities high temperature is 55 degrees on Oct. 21. Many spots in the metro area will reach the upper 50s Saturday afternoon.

Most of Minnesota will have Saturday highs in the 50s:

Some spots in Lake and Cook counties in northeastern Minnesota could see highs in the upper 40s.

Sunday high temps will reach the 50s in most areas, with lower 60s possible in parts of southwestern and south-central Minnesota:

Fall color report

Much of northern Minnesota is past peak for fall colors, but beautiful fall colors are on display in large portions of central and southern Minnesota.
