Wintry mix spreads across Minnesota

Minnesota saw an impressive range of high temperatures on Sunday. Far northern Minnesota had highs in the 30s and 40s. Much of west-central, southwestern and south-central Minnesota topped out in the 60s.

The Sunday high temperature at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport was 58 degrees. That’s 11 degrees warmer than the average Nov. 5 Twin Cities high temp. Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie reported 60 degrees at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Monday highs will reach the 50s in the southern third of Minnesota plus much of western Wisconsin:

Central and northeastern Minnesota will see a lot of 40s, with 30s in northwestern Minnesota.

Tuesday high temps will be in the 40s in many areas, with 50s in far southern Minnesota and 30s in the far north:

Twin Cities metro area highs are projected to reach the lower 50s on Wednesday, followed by mid 40s Thursday and lower 40s on Friday. 

Temperatures next weekend are expected to be near-normal, then we could see warmer temps the following week. The NWS Climate Prediction Center shows a strong tendency for above-normal temps in Minnesota and Wisconsin from Nov. 13 through Nov. 19:

Most of the northern half of Minnesota plus northwestern Wisconsin will see periods of rain Sunday evening and overnight Sunday night. Parts of northern Minnesota could have a wintry mix at times. 

Scattered showers are possible Sunday night from central Minnesota through the Twin Cities metro area and into west-central Wisconsin.

The daylight hours of Monday look dry across much of Minnesota, including Twin Cities metro area. A mix of rain showers and snow showers is expected Monday morning in north-central and northeastern Minnesota, with periods of rain showers in Wisconsin.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern from 6 a.m. Monday to 3 p.m. Monday:

The Twin Cities record low temp for Nov. 6 is zero degrees and the record low for Nov. 7 is six degrees below zero. Both record lows were set in 1991, when  the metro area had deep snow from the snowstorm that began on Halloween.
