Enjoying our near-record December warmth so far? Get used to it. Forecast models and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration outlooks are in lockstep that unseasonable warmth will continue for the next two to four weeks.

Check out NOAA’s week 3-4 temperature outlook above. You can see it strongly favors warmer-than-normal conditions into the first week of January.

These temperature outlooks are generally more reliable than day-to-day precipitation outlooks. Larger scale patterns are more likely to yield accurate temperature trends.

Temperatures climb this week back into the 40s. Highs by Saturday will push 50 degrees in southern Minnesota once again.

The Twin Cities could get close to 50 degrees on Christmas Eve. 

The record high in the Twin Cities is 46 degrees on Christmas Eve. The forecast high of 49 will likely set a new record.

A warm surge of air ahead of a developing storm will bring warmth and likely rain. Here’s NOAA’s Global Forecast System model for Christmas Eve:
