If Ralph Lauren had a color for mild Minnesota winter days it could be called Seattle Gray.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s GeoColor satellite loop above shows the extensive cloud deck above the Midwest Wednesday. Moisture from our mild Pacific flow and melting snow cover are producing plenty of low stratus this week. 

That moisture is producing some freezing fog at night and into the early morning.

With temperatures just below freezing, expect icy spots on roads, walkways, and your driveway in the mornings this week. 

High temperatures will be gradually milder as we move through the weekend. 

When will we see the sun again Paul? I hear you. It looks like we’ll see a break in the clouds by Saturday, and maybe for a few days next week.

If we get significant sun with our disappearing snow cover, expect temperatures to soar into the 40s most days next week.

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts model is still cranking out temperatures near 50 degrees late next week in parts of southern Minnesota.
