New month. Same balmy super El Niño winter pattern.

The Twin Cities and much of Minnesota are running about 19 degrees warmer than normal through the first two days of February, and even warmer temperatures are likely again next week.

The Twin Cities topped out at 41 degrees Friday afternoon. That’s a full 16 degrees warmer than normal. And Friday was likely the coolest day we’ll see for about a week. 

The weekend brings mostly sunny skies to most of Minnesota. Highs will again rise through the 40s this weekend.

Next week brings another surge of super mild Pacific air. Sunshine and now snow cover will combine to send temperatures into the 50s once again. 

The record highs next week run between 50 and 53 degrees. So we’ll likely tie or break some records next week. 

A  low-pressure system will ride north into Minnesota late next week. This system looks warm enough for mostly rain on the front side, with a little lighter snow on the backside.

Below is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Global Forecast System model between 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 p.m. Friday.

Cooler temperatures will blow in behind this system starting on the weekend of Feb. 10-11. Highs in the 30s south and 20s north look likely. That’s still about 5 to 10 degrees warmer than normal for most areas.

The outlook for the second half of February favors temperatures closer to average than what we’ll see over the next week.
