From July 20 to March 8 in less than a week. That’s how violent the temperature swing is in Minnesota this week.

Last Saturday’s high of 85 degrees in the Twin Cities is the normal high for around July 20. Friday’s high in the upper 30s is normal for March 8.

Lows will dip into the 20s across most of Minnesota Saturday morning. Temperatures may hover just above 30 degrees in the inner Twin Cities, so pretty much everyone will see a freeze overnight.

Mellower weekend

This weekend will still be chilly. But it will lack the 40 mph wind gusts. 17 of the past 18 days have produced wind gusts at or above 30 mph in the Twin Cities. Yes, April is our windiest month of the year on average. But this month’s relentless wind seems excessive.

Highs will nudge 50 degrees in the Twin Cities after a frosty Saturday morning.
