We’re watching our next weather system spin toward Minnesota Friday night and Saturday.

On the map below, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s High-Resolution Rapid Refresh model shows the system’s mix of snow and ice spinning northward between 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.

This system will bring a wintry mix of precipitation types. Temperatures near freezing in the lowest mile of the atmosphere will produce sloppy snow, freezing rain and possibly sleet.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 5 PM FRIDAY TO 9 AM CST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Mixed precipitation expected. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations up to one tenth of an inch.

* WHERE...Portions of northwest and west central Iowa, southwest Minnesota, northeast Nebraska, and southeast South Dakota.

* WHEN...From 5 PM Friday to 9 AM CST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday evening commute.

Freezing rain may cause some icy accumulations across parts of our region.
