Statewide data released Thursday by the Minnesota Department of Health indicates that hospitalizations for influenza and COVID-19 have slightly declined for the first time in over a month.  

Weekly flu hospitalizations are over twice as high as last year’s peak when cases jumped in December. 

Hospital admissions from respiratory viruses in Minnesota

Hospital admissions for RSV continue to rise. The virus often resembles a common cold but can lead to prolonged coughing and wheezing in severe cases. It is currently less widespread than either COVID-19 or the flu. 

The Minnesota Department of Health recommends the following measures to protect yourself and others and to reduce the spread of respiratory viruses: wash your hands, wear a mask, stay home when you are sick, and get vaccinated.
