Snowfall totals from April Fools' Day storm

Areas in north-central Minnesota and North Shore picked up over a foot

Joe Friedrichs sent MPR News this video of Josh Dix, a worker from the Cook County Highway Department. Josh is one of three people who works to clear snow from the Gunflint Trail in the winter. While most parts of Minnesota are beginning to warm up, the Gunflint experienced over a foot of snow on April 2-3.

The April Fools’ Day snowstorm slammed the Northland, dumping over a month’s worth of heavy, wet snow on the region.

  • Hovland, 15.2 inches

  • Fergus Falls, 15.1 inches

  • Cormorant, 14.8 inches

  • Finland, 14.4 inches

  • Lutsen, 13.1 inches

  • Garfield, 12.5 inches

  • Grand Marais, 12.2 inches

  • Deer Creek, 12 inches

  • Silver Bay, 11.8 inches

  • Two Harbors, 11.7 inches

  • Ulen, 11.5 inches

  • Bagley, 11 inches

  • Ottertail, 11 inches

  • Knife River, 10.5 inches

  • Detroit Lakes, 10.5 inches

  • Wadena, 10.3 inches

  • Hackensack, 9.6 inches

  • Richville, 8.5 inches

  • Orr, 8.4 inches

  • Bemidji, 8 inches
