A weak weather system crossing Minnesota Thursday is dribbling out some showers on this first day of May. A rumble of thunder is possible Thursday afternoon, but the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Storm Prediction Center does not have any severe weather risk zones for Minnesota.

NOAA’s FV3 model seems to have a good handle on precipitation trends into Friday morning.

Overall rainfall totals into Friday morning look generally light. Most locations will pick up less than one-quarter inch, but a few spots between the Twin Cities and Duluth may get a half inch of rain.

Milder weekend ahead

A milder air mass blows into Minnesota this upcoming weekend. Highs will mostly in the 60s Saturday with temps around 70 in the red River Valley.

By Sunday, temperatures will approach 80 degrees in much of western Minnesota.

The Twin Cities has still not hit 80 degrees yet this spring season. The average date for the first 80-degree temperature in the Twin Cities is about April 28.
