The rotating supercell that rolled north right through Minneapolis came about as close as you can without dropping a tornado right in the heart of the Twin Cities.

This wall cloud near Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport rolled quickly north through the Twin Cities Thursday afternoon.

Thankfully, the densely populated core of the Twin Cities narrowly escaped a possible tornado Thursday.

Severe storms also peppered central and northern Minnesota Thursday. Winds gusted to 72 mph in Thief River Falls!

Thursday’s well-advertised severe weather system produced at least seven preliminary tornado reports in Minnesota and Wisconsin. (See the map at the top of this post.)
