The world’s largest annual wheelchair sports event for military veterans kicked off in Minneapolis on Thursday July 17.
The National Veterans Wheelchair Games brings together hundreds of U.S. vets for some friendly but fierce competition across a number of adaptive sports, including slalom, disc golf and this year's highlight — axe throwing.
Rob York is a Woodbury-native who is a multi-sport athlete and has been participating in the Games for a decade. He said the event helps him feel reconnected to a community of vets.
York shared more about his experience ahead of the opening ceremony.
