A handful of special and primary elections are taking place Tuesday, Aug. 12. Polls close at 8 p.m. Results are listed below for the following races:

State House: District 34B special primary election

Minnesota House of Representatives District 34B

 candidates running in the special primary election include Christian Eriksen, Xp Lee and Erickson Saye for the DFL candidacy. Ruth Bittner is running uncontested for the Republican spot on the ballot.

A special election is being held Sept. 16 to fill the seat that 

became vacant after Melissa Hortman was shot and killed in June

St. Paul City Council Ward 4 special election 

Candidates for the St. Paul City Council Ward 4 special election include Chauntyll Allen, Molly Coleman, Cole Hanson and Carolyn Will. This race is ranked choice voting. 

Ward 4 in St. Paul includes parts of several neighborhoods, including Hamline-Midway, Merriam Park, St. Anthony Park, Macalester-Groveland and Como.

St. Paul uses ranked choice voting and will only report first-choice votes. If necessary, additional tabulation will begin Aug. 15.

Stearns County Commissioner District 4 special primary election

Stearns County is located in central Minnesota. It has one contested county commissioner race for District 4 with a special primary election on Aug. 12. The two candidates with the most votes will advance to the Nov. 4 election.

A special election is being held in District 4 because the previous commissioner, 

Isanti has a special election happening on Aug. 12 for mayor. The candidates include Jeff Johnson and Luke Merrill.

White Bear Lake primary election for Mayor

White Bear Lake is holding a primary on Aug. 12 for mayor. There are three candidates: Stephen Laliberte, Mary Nicklawske and Matthew Schoenthaler.

Two Harbors special election for city council at large

Two Harbors has a special election on Aug. 12 for a city council member at large. There are two candidates: Laura Osbakken Goutermont and Donna Heil. 

Duluth had a primary election for city councilmember 2 has three candidates: Christopher Adatte, Diane Desotelle and Pierre Tournier. 

Duluth’s city council seat at large also had an election. The five candidates are Asher Estrin-Haire, Jordon Johnson, Derek Medved, Zachary Davis Moder and Terese Tomanek.

Duluth School Board Member At Large (Elect 2) 

School District 709 in Duluth is having a special election for a school board member at large. Two candidates will be elected from a pool of five: Kelly Durick Eder, Jane Diane Hoffman, Loren Martell, Amber Sadowski and Harry Welty.
