The mass shooting Wednesday threw residents and families near the Annunciation Catholic Church and School in south Minneapolis into chaos. In response, people from across religious denominations stepped up to help.
“One of the things I’ve learned, unfortunately: My legislative big sister and mentor Melissa Horton's murder with Mark earlier this summer just re-reminded me of what it takes to manage our bodies and our spirits through trauma,” said former Minn. Rep. Jeremy Kalin.
Kalin is a member of Shir Tikvah synagogue not far from the Annunciation campus. He was among those who helped families at the reunification center on Wednesday.
“The commandment is ‘shavat vayinafash:’ to rest and restore your spirit. And being together in community is part of that,” he said.
